Congratulating our 2020 Moody Scholars with Parking Lot Graduation Ceremonies
With COVID-19 disrupting many end-of-year school traditions like graduations, the Moody Foundation wanted to focus on recognizing our Moody Scholars in the best way possible. In late May, we hosted special parking lot ceremonies for high schools in Austin, Dallas and Galveston to congratulate over 70 graduating Moody Scholars as part of the Moody Scholars program.
For more than 50 years, the Moody Scholars program has provided opportunities for students to further their learning. Our goal for the program is to bring hope to our scholars’ futures and give them a solid launchpad to continue their academic journeys.
Though we didn’t imagine hosting parking lot graduation ceremonies to honor our scholars, we believe this unprecedented time will only strengthen our scholars and spur them towards greater learning and success. We know our scholars would have loved to celebrate this milestone physically with extended family and friends, so we wanted to make this moment extra special.
Scholars will receive $16,000 to be used over four years at a Texas college of their choice. In past years, the scholars have gone off to attend colleges throughout Texas, including Baylor University, Galveston College, Rice University, Sam Houston State University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, University of Houston, University of Texas at Austin, University of Texas at Dallas, University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston, University of Texas San Antonio and more.
