AUSTIN, Texas – June 13, 2023 – The Moody Foundation has hired Courtney Rogers as its new Director of Education Strategy and Impact. Rogers’ hiring comes as the Foundation continues to expand its educational presence across Texas.

Courtney has built her career in the Texas education space, working in the classroom, at the district level and in nonprofit settings. She has a long-held passion for philanthropy, spearheading multiple major funding initiatives to foster student success. The math-focused education nonprofit where she began her career was a proud Moody Foundation grantee. Previously, Courtney oversaw special projects for the Dallas Independent School District’s Office of Transformation and Innovation, and served as Executive Director of The Educator Collective.

“When I first came across this role, I was immediately inspired by the Foundation’s commitment to further strengthen the Texas education landscape through a strategic and proactive approach,” said Rogers. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to apply my perspectives as an educator, grantee and grantmaker toward furthering the reach and impact of this tremendous organization.”

The Moody Foundation has a long history of educational giving in Texas. Under Mary Moody Northen’s leadership, the Foundation delivered one of its first education grants. Since its inception in 1969, the Moody Scholars program has awarded over $24 million to assist more than 6,280 students throughout the state. Recently, the Foundation celebrated the 5-year anniversary of the Generation Moody Education Initiative, which has awarded more than $55 million to provide exceptional cradle-to-career educational opportunities for infants through high school and into post-secondary studies.

“Our goal at the Moody Foundation is to invest in ideas that promote accessibility and inclusion, especially in education. We’ve made significant advancements to address critical needs but more still needs to be done to drive lasting impact,” said Ross Moody, trustee of the Moody Foundation. “Education continues to be an important part of our giving, and we’re excited to welcome Courtney to seek out more opportunities to help transform the lives of students.”

In her new role, Courtney will design, lead and grow all aspects of the Foundation’s education grantmaking to support Texas communities and students, particularly those who are most vulnerable and in greatest need. A few key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of a renewed education grantmaking strategy and engagement plan for key initiatives
  • Proactively seeking prospective grantees to understand local needs and viable solutions
  • Providing oversight on approval and portfolio review processes for education grants

“The education system is a complex arena with multifaceted challenges to overcome, as well as strengths to be leveraged,” continued Rogers. “I firmly believe there is no sector better equipped to transform individual lives and entire communities for the better. I am eager to dive into this process to support the Foundation’s vision for a bigger, better future for all Texans.”

When she’s not working, you can find Courtney fully immersed in toddler life with her husband and studying history, particularly the American Revolutionary era.
