Moody Grant Recipient: Family Eldercare

Family Eldercare is an Austin-based organization born of a grassroots response to a community need and committed to supporting an aging population with true and innovative avenues toward Aging in Place.

What are you using the funds for? How many people did it help serve?

Beginning in 2018 the Moody Foundation’s generous funding helped Family Eldercare expand our rapid rehousing program, which transitions older adults and adults with disabilities who are experiencing homelessness into safe and stable housing.  With the Foundation’s support, Family Eldercare transitioned 53 people out of homelessness in 2018.

How do you hope Family Eldercare and its programs will grow in the next several years?

The need for affordable housing continues to be a major concern for Austinites, especially older adults and adults with disabilities who are living on a fixed income. In 2004, Family Eldercare built Lyons Gardens to provide 54 affordable apartments for seniors. It is our hope that in the coming years, Family Eldercare will be able to help further close the gap in affordable housing with new construction. Our vision is that one day all Texans will thrive with dignity and purpose in supportive communities and are financially secure.
